About Us

BAS ROUGE FARM & FORGE

THE NAME

The farm is named for our two Beauceron (Boh-seh-ron) dogs, an ancient herding breed from France. They are also known as 'bas rouge' or 'red stockings' for the reddish fur on their legs.

THE FARM

What started as a homestead is now a small, diversified farm with several enterprises:

  • Native Plant Nursery
  • Culinary Mushrooms (Shiitake) Coming Fall 2023
  • Permaculture Design Consulting
  • Blacksmith Forge

We enjoy teaching, writing and speaking about what we know. If you would like to learn more about our small farm; would like to purchase native plants, shrubs and trees, visit us at these markets; or learn about gardening classes here.

NEW IN 2023:

We are very proud to be part of the 2023 Journeyperson program through Maine Organic Farmers & Gardeners Association (MOFGA). The program provides mentorship, technical assistance, business planning and other invaluable resources to beginning farmers in Maine.

Visit our booth at the Orono Farmers Market (second year); and our NEW market locations at the Brewer Farmers Market (on alternating Saturdays) and Bangor Farmers Market (Sundays) Late May through October!

Bas Rouge Farm & Forge is Veteran and Hispanic/Latina Owned. Glenn and Ivonne are your farmers.

Happy planting!
