Whether Shiitake does or doesn’t contribute to immortality, they are nonetheless, a prized and delicious mushroom.
Shiitake mushrooms contain eritadenine, a compound known to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. They also contain beta-glucans that reduce inflammation and help prevent the intestines from absorbing cholesterol and support immune health. OUR GROWING PROCESS
Here at Bas Rouge Farm & Forge, our Shiitakes are grown on 10 lb. blocks (also known as substrate) purchased from an organically certified producer located less than two hours from our farm, here in Maine.
Temperature, humidity and other growing conditions are monitored constantly, several times a day, in our dedicated

Here at Bas Rouge Farm & Forge, our Shiitakes are grown on 10 lb. blocks (also known as substrate) purchased from an organically certified producer located less than two hours from our farm, here in Maine.
Temperature, humidity and other growing conditions are monitored constantly, several times a day, in our dedicated Shiitake hut, nestled in the woods.
Glenn takes the time, at least three to four times per day, to check on the health and growth of our mushrooms, maintaining data and analyzing the growing process for optimum harvest.
At Bas Rouge Farm & Forge we use care, patience, constant monitoring and lots of fresh cold water to grow our Shiitake.
Harvest is always a joy to behold. The mushrooms are rich, plump and inviting.

HOW TO USE SHIITAKE
The fresh mushroom can be cooked and added to vegan dishes, salads, egg and pasta dishes, stir fry or ramen hot pots. Add the powdered Shiitake to soups, stews, pasta dishes, sauces or use as an ingredient for your campfire cooking. Adding dried Shiitake mushrooms will elevate any meal. It will become a healthy and nutritious pantry staple.
Our favorite way to prepare Shiitake is to slice it and add a little butter or olive oil to a hot pan and cook until golden brown. Simple and delicious. Any and every dish is better with Shiitake.
